Queen’s Park Oval Carnage: Hetmyer’s 40-Ball Century Sinks Knight Riders in Rain-Hit Thriller

Rain cut the contest to 16 overs a side, but it did not dampen the fireworks at Queen’s Park Oval. In a high-octane Caribbean derby packed with monster sixes and frantic momentum swings, Guyana Amazon Warriors held their nerve to edge past Trinbago Knight Riders by 9 runs via the DLS method.
DailyCricInfo brings you the full, unvarnished match report from Match 22 of CPL 2026.
The Hetmyer Hurricane
Winning the toss and bowling first seemed like a sound strategy in damp conditions. Akeal Hosein struck in the opening over to dismiss Glenn Phillips for a duck, and Shai Hope fell cheaply for 16.
Then Shimron Hetmyer took complete control.
Hetmyer put on one of the most destructive exhibitions of boundary hitting the CPL has ever seen. He didn't care about the field placements. He cleared the ropes with pure disdain, bringing up a sensational 40-ball century before finishing unbeaten on 111 off just 43 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries and nine colossal sixes.
Romario Shepherd provided the ultimate late punch, clubbing an astonishing 27 not out from only 7 balls (SR 385.71). Between Hetmyer and Shepherd, Guyana plundered 45 runs off the final two overs to power to a daunting 185 for 5 in their 16 overs.
Pooran and Hales Lead the Charge
Chasing a stiff DLS target of 186 in 96 deliveries, TKR had to go hard from ball one.
Sunil Narine fell early, but Nicholas Pooran arrived with intent. Pooran launched a savage counter-attack, smashing three fours and four sixes in an electric 43 off just 16 balls. Alongside Colin Munro (22 off 18), TKR raced past 50 in no time.
Nabi's Spin Stalls the Chase
Can you survive in a record run-chase once a veteran spinner starts turning the screws?
Mohammad Nabi swung the match on its head. In the space of four balls in the seventh over, Nabi removed Pooran, caught Jyd Goolie leg-before for a duck, and derailed TKR's momentum. When Imran Tahir bowled Justin Greaves, TKR had slipped from 67 for 2 to 68 for 5 in the blink of an eye.
Alex Hales refused to surrender without a fight. Hales launched seven towering sixes on his way to a blistering 55 off 24 deliveries. But once Shamar Joseph shattered Hales' stumps in the 15th over, the ask proved slightly too steep.
Despite late boundaries from Dominic Drakes (14*) and Joshua Da Silva (13*), TKR finished on 172 for 7, falling just nine runs short.
Shimron Hetmyer deservingly walked away with the Player of the Match honors for his match-winning masterclass.
